The Performing Arts department is always proud to present a variety of productions, performances and overall celebrations of our students’ many talents. Staff at the College have the opportunity to work with dedicated, talented and passionate students who can participate in performance, music or design.
Both of our Junior Campuses collaborate to produce a non-musical play towards the end of Term 3. Students in all three Junior year levels are encouraged to participate if they are interested, with students from both campuses able to perform together at our Beaconsfield Campus in early Term 4. Rehearsals are held at the end of school days throughout the year.
The rehearsal process starts in Term 1 and production is performed at the Maree Johnson Auditorium where the performance is highlighted with professional lighting and sound. Students are always prepared to take on the challenges of a rigorous yet fun rehearsal process, continuing each year to produce productions of high standard.
Our cast also participates in the Schools on Stage, City of Casey competition, showcasing songs from our productions. We are proud of our first place results in 2016 and 2018.
Cantabile, also known as Liturgical Choir, is a Religious Education elective for students in Years 10 to 12. Cantabile lessons include regular references to Scripture, Prayer, the Eucharist, the Church, Music Theory and Music Singing. Members of the choir enhance their understanding of lyrics and link this to scripture and prayer.
Every August, the College celebrates Cantabile’s Night of Song, a reflection of material covered throughout the academic year. This evening is run by students in the Beaconsfield Chapel and is a highlight on the school calendar.
The College offers many different ensembles for students across all three Campuses to be involved in. Rehearsals are held before school, at lunchtimes and sometimes after school. Any student who can play an instrument or sing is able to join the ensembles offered at their Campus. We currently offer the following ensembles across our three Campuses:
Our Annual Cabaret Night provides students the opportunity to represent the Performing Arts with a dynamic and vibrant showcase of Music, Dance and Drama. Presentations are delivered with professional lighting and sound, creating the perfect ambience for the whole evening.
Cabaret Night is held every year at the Beaconsfield Campus in Term 4.
The Instrumental Music Performance Evening is an opportunity for all students involved in the instrumental music program at the College to perform in front of family and friends. Each of the College’s ensembles are also given the chance to perform on this evening.
All three Campuses are involved in this performance evening, allowing our junior students to learn from senior music students and see what they could be involved in when they move to the Beaconsfield campus.
The College’s Jazz Night was introduced in 2016 after a very successful ‘Afternoon of Jazz’ the year before. This evening is a chance for our contemporary music students to experience performing at a professional performance venue in the city.
The evening includes performances by our Senior and Junior Jazz Ensembles, senior music students and selected junior students. We also encourage some of the College’s alumni, who have decided to study music after school, to come and perform for the students, teachers and parents who attend.
